US Spitfire Reconnaissance

I'd forgotten that I've seen this before. If you have as well, it's still worth a few minutes of your time.
An unarmed, unescorted reconnaissance plane over WWII Germany? Just for a chance for a high school graduate to fly?
These men had steel nards, and we owe a lot to them.

Yeah, they did stuff like that. Not too long ago, I read Fighter Pilot, which is the memoir of Robin Olds. He talked about doing that.
Pretty crazy. But I think that must be part of being a fighter jock. Read about the Wild Weasels in Vietnam, baiting the AA during air missions.
