Jess of Scratching to Escape has posted about how his mother wasn't doing so well, and today he let us know she has passed on.
If you have a chance, go and give him some support in the comments. Not easy losing your mother, and it's the least we can do for him and his family.

Going Nowhere Fast
The Poor Farm and surrounding areas were hit by a less than impressive snow storm last night and today. A thin layer of ice was deposited, followed by some very light, fluffy snow. The weather prognosticators were crowing that we'd get five to six inches of snow. Not hardly. Maybe, just maybe, two. Moisture content? Basically nil.
We need the moisture, too. It's dry.
But the conditions were crummy enough that us oversize haulers didn't go anywhere. It's worse north of here and spotty to the south - but far enough that I couldn't get to the better roads today anyway. We'll see what tomorrow brings. In this case, if it's gonna park me, I'd prefer that the weather exceeded the minimum requirements.
I also have a prayer request, or positive karma, or whatever. One of my oldest friends has been battling cancer. He was having trouble with his vision, and further examination revealed some small cancerous brain tumors. During treatment, they found more in his chest, and removed what they could. He's been going through a comprehensive surgery, chemo and radiation regimen for some time.
Apparently to no avail. The doctors have gone to pain management mode, waiting for the end. His family has requested privacy, so I won't link to his update site. I just ask that in your conversations with The Man, you consider adding Jeffro's buddy Oscar and his family to your list. He will know who you are talking about. They're gonna need the support and strength.
Oscar and I have been buds since kindergarten. He's always been an ornery, yet classy guy. I could always count on him, and hope he could do the same from me.
It's a sad day here. I'm gonna miss him.

Mish Update
She's not doing very well, gang. The doctors have reverted to palliative care, and she's scared. If y'all would, go give her some support.

Linus Said It Best

Simple. Elegant. The Truth.
Merry Christmas, everyone. Personally, I'm headed for OKC to see my Sis. I wanted to leave Christmas Eve, but dern it, the actual job I have sort of interfered with those plans. So, it will be "on the road" on Christmas for me.
She is on dialup. Posting and keeping up with everyone may be a bit lighter than usual. It never ceases to amaze me that a huge company like SBC has basically abandoned her and her little area for broadband, but my little rural telco cooperative is far more forward thinking, since we'uns have DSL and have had it for five odd years now.
At any rate, just one more thing for being thankful. May G_d walk with y'all.

Please Say a Prayer
Today, Mish Weiss has her bone marrow transplant, and it is a big step. The outcome is far from being guaranteed positive.

Leah Meter Maid
One thing the internet has done for us is to make the world a far smaller place. Any of you who read these scribblings know I've not had the greatest time as far as health goes in the past four months. One of my favorite bloggers, Steve H. of Hog on Ice, linked my prairie dog post and told the world about my health problems - the second time he did so. One of the commenters wishing me well was Leah Friedman, and eighteen year old girl from Israel.
Steve found out just the other day about her problems. Like I said, she is only eighteen. She is a supporter of gay rights and helping those with AIDS. She supports the reestablishment of Eretz Israel. She also has a severe heart condition that required the installation of a defibrillator. The doctors had to increase her meds, and she had a reaction that led her into respiratory arrest. She may have brain damage. She has come out of a coma, signed to her parents that she loves them, and asked for a Coke - so she is improving.
Leah and her family have also received threatening emails, comments on her blog and phone calls. Members of "The Religion of Peace©" are responsible. Yes, those brave individuals who tell us we are the spawn of Satan are showing how honorable they are by threatening an eighteen year old girl in a coma. So, her parents and friends have removed her email and picture from her website.
Now, if G_d calls me home tomorrow, I will have few regrets. I've been on the planet a few years and have had the opportunity to live a life. However, in my humble opinion, Leah has not. I have been praying for her to improve, and posting supportive comments on her blog. It is the least I can do. I ask you to do the same. Her blog is called Leah Meter Maid. If you've got a moment, send up a prayer for her. It does seem to be working.
