Calvin Says a Mouthful
He discovered Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, and it impressed him, even changing his view on classical music. Pretty cool.
Just as a side note, I've blown a couple tweeters over the years playing this piece on the ol' home stereo. When the "guns" go off, there is a high frequency "crack" that will do 'em in.

There are several versions on YouTube that have excellent artillery accompaniment.
Truly stunning to hear it live!
My family used to make the annual trek to Fort Bragg on Independence Day for the festivities, which always included a live performance of the 1812 Overture, complete with cannon fire. And those boys do know how to put on a fireworks display!
I've never had the opportunity to hear the Overture live. :(
Well, if you're the sort who likes live cannon fire with your music (and who isn't), then obtain this CD.
And the above link won't work, due to a spurious quotation mark at the end. Well, it's Telarc catalog # 80079. Erich Kunzel conducting the Cincinnati Symphony, Wellington's Victory, by Ludwig van Beethoven, who kicks Tchaikovsky's ass, BTW.
