You are lucky (hehe) that oyu don't read contemporary Russian literature. I immediately recalled a short story, written by a doc serving on ambulance (in Russia they are full-blown MDs), involving an elderly lonely woman, a cat who was an especially gifted licker and an unfortunate circumstance of annoying said cat while in process of licking, which then turn into a process of biting. I don't think it will be ever translated into English.
